Jonathan Kinchen,
Sr.
February 9, 1954 – November 30, 2022
Jonathan Kinchen, Sr was born February 9, 1954, in Helena, Arkansas. He was the seventh of eight children of Ezekiel and Essie Kinchen, Sr.
Jonathan accepted Christ at an early age and united with Mount Tabor Baptist Church in Helena, Arkansas. He later joined First Missionary Baptist Church in Pine Bluff, Arkansas. He loved singing in the choir. After graduating from Central High School he continued his education with a Welding certification that he completed in Helena, Arkansas. He later received his Associate's Degree in Automotive Mechanics at Southeast Arkansas College.
In 1979, Jonathan entered the U.S. Army where he served his country until 1986. He worked as a Diesel Mechanic until he retired in 2013.
In 1970, Jonathan was blessed with a daughter Yolonda A. Walker (Morris). He was united in marriage to Corless Demita Kinchen on May 19, 1979. To this union, two children were born: Jonathan Kinchen, Jr, and Jeremy Christopher Kinchen.
Jonathan, 68, was called home on November 30, 2022.
Jonathan was preceded in death by his siblings - Samuel L Kinchen, Mary L Kinchen, and Robert E Kinchen, Esq.; and granddaughter - Bethany Walker.
He is survived by his wife, Corless Demita Kinchen of Hampton, VA; children, Yolonda Walker (Vernon) of Detroit, MI, Jonathan Kinchen, Jr. (Kame'ka) of Rogers, AR, Jeremy C. Kinchen (Gregory) of Hampton, VA; siblings, Laly B. (Lonzo) Hudson of Chicago, IL, John Ester Kinchen and Ruthie Baker, both of Detroit, MI, Ezekiel Kinchen, Jr. of Little Rock, AR; grandchildren, Alexander Morris, Natasha Montgomery, Jocelyn Walker, Amelia Kinchen, and Ava Kinchen; and a host of nephews, nieces, cousins, and friends.
The family will receive friends from 11:00-12:00 Noon, Saturday, December 10, 2022, at R. Hayden Smith Funeral Home, 245 S. Armistead Ave., in downtown Hampton. Immediately following at Noon, Jonathan's life will be celebrated in the funeral home chapel. The service will be live streamed on the funeral home Facebook page, CLICK HERE
