Obituary

SGM(Ret) Johnny Cathcart, 71, passed away at his home Thursday, April 10, 2014 after a long illness. Born in Spartanburg, SC, he had been a resident of Hampton for over 20 years. He retired after 30 years in the US Army, which included service with the 82nd Airborne Division, and overseas in Vietnam, Japan and Germany, and as Sergeant Major of Army Bands. He then worked with the Newport News Courts and later at Ft. Story with the USAESOM, DOTD as a Training Planner and Developer.

Johnny was preceded in death by his son, Jonathan Cathcart. He is survived by his wife Laura Cathcart, their children Nokomise and Marissa Cathcart; son, Keith Collins; daughters, Felecia Cathcart and Sherry Layton; sister, Margaret Anne Cathcart; brothers, Michael and Tommy Lee Cathcart; and grandchildren, Danny and Christopher Norman, Erica Layton, and Crystal Grant, and several cousins, nieces and nephews.

A memorial service will be conducted 12:00 noon on Wednesday, April 23, 2014, at Ivy Memorial Baptist Church by The Rev. John S. Etcher. Inurnment will follow at 2:00 PM with full military honors at the Albert G. Horton Jr. Memorial Veterans Cemetery at Hampton Roads, in Suffolk.
