John Scott Paton passed away Sunday March 15, 2015. A lifelong resident of the city of Newport News, Scott owned his own company, S.P. Building Company, for over 25 years. He was a perfectionist when it came to his trade. He made many lasting friendships throughout his career as a home builder. Scott also had a strong relationship with his Lord. Throughout his struggle he never lost sight of the fact that he was moving on to a much better place with God. Scott is survived by his father George Paton of Newport News, sister Heather Paton of Newport News, brother George Paton of Richmond, brother Bruce Paton and his wife Lyn and their children Alex and Mia, and brother Robert and his wife Nora. Scott was preceded in death by his mother Sandra Paton of Newport News. Funeral services will be at 11:00 a.m. Saturday March 21st 2015 at R. Hayden Smith Funeral Home on Armistead Ave. in Hampton. There will be a short graveside service in Oakland Cemetery immediately following the service. The family will receive friends beginning at 10:00 a.m. at the funeral home.
