John Scott Hamilton went to be with his Lord on April 12, 2014. Born in Newport News he attended Hampton High School where he played football and then joined the US Marine Corps. After serving in the Marines, he returned to Hampton where he worked as a firefighter in Hampton then James City County, and worked 25 years for the Virginia Department of Corrections at the Bland Correctional Facility. In 1993 he moved to Bluefield, WV where he became an ordained minister and then served several West Virginia communities.

Scott is survived by his wife, Patty Hamilton; children, Anthony "Tony" Hamilton and wife Chris, Richard "Rick" Hamilton, Tara; four grandchildren; sister Margaret Wilson; nephews, Chris, Colby and Craig Wilson.

A memorial service was held in Princeton, West Virginia.
