John Tyler Gatewood, 74, passed away Saturday, August 18, 2018.  A lifelong resident of the Peninsula, He retired from Tidewater Block in 2017 after 17 years.  He was a member of the Bremond Masonic Lodge # 241 AF & AM.

John was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 55 years, Wanda T. Gatewood.  He is survived by his Daughters, Sheryl Leek and her husband Howard and Kimberly Kinard and her Fiancé Steve; son, John T. Gatewood, Jr.; sister, Susan Love Gatewood; grandchildren, Amanda, Devon, Kelsey, Morgan, and Trent and great-grandchildren, Brianna and Logan. John's family, friends and anyone whom knew him will miss his intelligence, wit, stories, and humor. John held his family close to his heart, a loving, generous man with kind words, respect, and consideration for all.

Service will be held at a later date. The family wishes expressions of sympathy to take the form of contributions to the American Cancer Society.
