Obituary

John C. Fiedorowicz, 91, (LT. Col Retired), passed peacefully on May 14, 2020. Born in Uncasville, CT, he had been a resident of Hampton, VA since 1966. He retired from the Army after 20 years of service, including tours during the Vietnam and Korean Wars, earning a Bronze Star Medal alongside several other Army Commendation Medals during his distinguished military career.

Married for 63 years, John met his wife Claire LeMaire at Fort Devens in Massachusetts. After she eventually agreed to dance with him, they spent their lives dedicated to each other while raising four children.

John was a sports fanatic and devoted Boston Red Sox fan, often listening to the games on his table-side radio and watching them on television at the same time. Drafted by the St. Louis Cardinals, John pitched in the minor leagues before being called to military service. He was an avid gardener, an impassioned bird-watcher, but most important of all, a warmhearted family man

John, better known as "Fido" or lovingly as "Djadju", was preceded in death by his parents Nikodem and Malwina Fiedorowicz; his brothers, Walter Fiedorowicz and Stanley Fiedorowicz; and sisters, Ann Lebejko and Mary Fiedorowicz. He is survived by his sons, Johnny Fiedorowicz, David Fiedorowicz (Janice); daughters, Lisa McCormick (Terence) and Julie McGonagle (Mike); grandchildren, Ryan Fiedorowicz (Faith), Kris McCormick (Claire), Sean Phelps (Ashlyn), Mary Phelps (Jensen); great-grandchildren, Jaxon Fiedorowicz and Hazel Phelps; nephew Gary Fiedorowicz (Karen); and great-nephews, Matt Fiedorowicz (Andrea) and Greg Fiedorowicz.

John will be laid to rest in Arlington National Cemetery to honor his military career and service. The family wishes expressions of sympathy to take the form of contributions to the Alzheimer's Association by clicking here . In addition, the family wishes to offer its sincere gratitude to our parents' caregivers for their compassion and commitment to John in the many years they provided in-home care.
