John Thomas Chiasson, 74, of Hampton, VA peacefully passed away on Sunday, January 3 after a courageous battle with cancer. Born September 28, 1941, John, or Jake, or Jackie, as his siblings and friends knew him, grew up in Waltham, MA and graduated from St. Mary's Catholic High School. He enlisted in the Air Force in 1963 as an electrician, eventually transitioning into Biomedical Equipment Maintenance Management in the Air Force and also worked for Sentara Hospital and the Navy post retirement. John served 30 years with tours in Japan, Taiwan, multiple stateside assignments, as well as three years at Lakenheath AFB, UK. He finally retired in Hampton, VA with his family after being stationed at Langley AFB. He was awarded medals and commendations including three for Honor Graduate, Commendation Medal, and Meritorious Service Medal and also the Humanitarian Service Medal. John enjoyed spending time with his family and friends and travelling with his wife, Natalie, especially to their beloved New England where both grew up. John was a member of St. John's Episcopal Church where he was on the Vestry and loved being an all-around Mr. Fix-it. John was preceded in rest by his parents, Arthur and Marie Rose. He is survived by his wife of 44 years, Natalie, and his two daughters Katrina, of Hampton, and Megan (Matt) of Richmond and two step-grandchildren, Madeleine and Ryan Dugan. John is also survived by six of ten children, brothers Robert (Maggie) and Francis (Denise), and sisters, Rose Marie Haskell (John), Eveline Wheeler (Jim), Helen Bremner (Steve) and Anne. John was predeceased by brothers Arthur, Ronald and Gerard. The family would like to thank the IR team at Portsmouth Naval Hospital and RRMC for their outstanding care. And a special thanks to our wonderful neighbors and their children - the Mannens, the Guions, and the Joneses, and everyone at St. John's Episcopal Church. The family will receive friends on Thursday, January 7, 2016, 5-7:00pm at R. Hayden Smith Funeral Home, Hampton. The Memorial Service will be held on Friday, January 8, 11am at St. John's Episcopal Church, Hampton.
