Joann Elizabeth Horton (Perry), 54, of Hampton, Virginia, passed away on August 9, 2025, surrounded by loved ones.  Born on February 16, 1971, in West Point, Virginia, Joann was the beloved daughter of the late Charles and Violet Perry. She carried with her the warmth and strength of her upbringing throughout her life.

Joann graduated from Christopher Newport University in 1993. Her connection to the university extended beyond her student years—she went on to serve as Head of Admissions for many years, helping guide and support students as they began their own journeys.

After her time at the university, Joann briefly worked in banking before choosing to devote herself fully to raising her family as a stay-at-home mom. In 2023, when her husband Robert suffered a traumatic brain injury, Joann embraced the role of caregiver with grace and fierce devotion—a testament to her boundless love and resilience.

Joann's greatest joy came from spending time with those she loved most. She is survived by her devoted husband Robert Horton; their two children, Trevor and Kaitlyn Horton; and her brother-in-law Ryan Horton. She also leaves behind many cousins and extended family members who will cherish her memory.

A gifted storyteller with a lifelong passion for writing, Joann recently began crafting children's books that are soon to be published in her honor. Her love for words was matched only by her love for reading and solving crossword puzzles—quiet pastimes that reflected her thoughtful nature. Whether curled up with a book or laughing alongside family and friends.

She adored sunflowers and shared a special bond with her beloved dog Marley. Her infectious laugh could lift spirits instantly, and she had an uncanny ability to make others feel seen and valued through both word and deed.

Joann was known for being confident, encouraging, and kind-hearted. Though she has left this world too soon, the legacy of love she built will continue to bloom in the hearts of all who knew her.

A graveside service celebrating Joann's life will be held at Clark Cemetery, 131 Beach Road, Hampton, VA 23664 at 11am on Wednesday, August 13, 2025.
