Mrs. Joan Roberta Hudgins, 80, of Hampton, Virginia, a loving wife, mother, and grandmother, went to be with her Savior on May 30, 2025 from the comfort of her home, after a 13-year long battle with Parkinson's.

Joan was born on May 2, 1945 in Newport News, Virginia.

Before her illness, Joan was a devoted member of Gloria Dei Lutheran Church, lending her voice to the choir and serving faithfully in the Altar Guild.  Joan never met a stranger; she was always happy to share conversation. One of Joan's proudest accomplishments was working for Basic Construction Company on the Chesapeake Bay Bridge Tunnel System. Joan also worked in the Hampton City Schools system for four years as a Teacher's Aide.

Joan is survived by her husband of 59 years, Bob Hudgins; sons, Chris (Silke), Jimmy and David Hudgins; and grandchildren, Kiara, Dagny, and Logan Hudgins, and Allison Delatte (Jonathan), who will forever cherish her memory. She was preceded in death by her parents, sister, Emmie Teal, and special nephew, John Robert Teal, Captain US Army.

A memorial service will be held at Gloria Dei Lutheran Church on Monday, June 9, 2025 at 12:00 pm. The family will receive friends prior to the service from 11:30 to 12:00pm. Interment will be in the church columbarium. A reception will be held at the church, following the service.

The family would like to extend special thanks to Riverside Hospice staff, especially nurse Jennifer and nurse Melanie who provided compassionate care and comfort to Joan; to personal caregivers Crystal and Traci, who spent many hours by her bedside providing extra care and support, and to friends who offered support to both Joan and family over the years.

In lieu of flowers the family suggests donations be made to Gloria Dei Lutheran Church, 250 Fox Hill Road, Hampton, VA 23669.
