Beverley Joan Cook, 83, passed away on Tuesday, March 29, 2022. Joan was the daughter of the late Jerry Allen Overman and Ruby Nettles Overman Johnson. Born and raised in Newport News, she graduated from Newport News High School and moved to Hampton in 1964 with her then-husband Gerald S. Cook and their two young children. Joan worked as a homemaker and as an Accounts Manager, retiring from G. E. Capital in 2000. She enjoyed crossword puzzles and keeping up with her extended family, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Joan was preceded in death by her parents and brother Jerry A. Overman Jr., and survived by her son, Kenneth "Ken" E. Cook and wife, Anne Culbertson; her grandchildren, Remi Claire Cook and Nell Sullivan Cook (their mother Mimi M. Cook), Justin Robert Harris (his wife Brittany Leigh Harris), and Elise Ruby Harris (her husband Krzysztof Piatkowski); her great-grandchildren Alexis Joan Adam, Benson Eli Harris-Piatkowski, and Colton James Harris (his mother Audrey Jean Henriquez).

A Memorial Service will be conducted at 1 PM on Saturday, April 9, 2022, by Dr. Danny Owens at R. Hayden Smith Funeral Home, 245 S. Armistead Ave, Hampton. www.rhaydensmith.com.
