Joan Mugler Conlin, 90, of Phoebus, passed away October 4, 2016 in her childhood home.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Mary's Star of Sea church at 11:00 am, Wednesday, October 12, 2016. Interment will follow in Greenlawn Memorial Park. R. Hayden Smith Funeral Home is handling the arrangements.

Joan was born in Phoebus to John P. and Susan Mugler on August 17, 1926. She attended Hampton High School and Mary Washington College. In addition to raising a family she worked as a legal secretary and eventually retired from Merck and Co. in 1991. In retirement Joan volunteered her time for a number of causes: Peninsula Reads, H.E.L.P., Meals on Wheels and as a Eucharistic Minister at St. Mary's Star of the Sea Catholic Church.

Joan is survived by Jim, her husband of 62 years; son Jim (Shirley); daughter Susan; daughter Marie (Darren); five grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
