Jo Melony Hammett Trenholm, 71, passed away on April 14, 2021. She was born in Savannah, GA on Sept 2, 1949 to CMSGT(Ret) Joe Walter Hammett and Frances Hammett. Jo grew up in Hampton, having moved to the Peninsula in 1955. She graduated from Kecoughtan High School in 1967. Attending the University of South Carolina for 2 years, she then transferred to Virginia Commonwealth University.

Jo was a member of the Pi Beta Phi sorority, and a past member of the Junior League, Junior Women's Club of Hilton Village, Warwick Yacht Club and James River Country Club. While her daughter was in school she was an active volunteer at St. Andrew's Episcopal School and Hampton Roads Academy.

A partner and retired Vice President of Bachand Woodworking Company Inc of Suffolk, her concentration was always on home, family, and friends.  She loved her dogs, decorating, TV cooking shows, travel, history and reading.

Having been diagnosed with type 1 diabetes at the age of 10, she was determined to not let the disease define her. She beat the medical odds on many occasions, but complications finally lead to heart disease and on April 14th her wonderful "heart" stopped forever.

Jo was preceded in death by her parents. She is survived by her husband of 48 years, David Jennings Trenholm; her daughter Ashley Trenholm Kreth and husband, Kyle Everett Kreth of Charlotte, NC; and the love of her life, 3 precious granddaughters Kaitlyn, Mallory, and Rachel.

The family wishes to thank the many doctors and caregivers she met and befriended over the years.  She will be buried at Arlington National Cemetery at a later date.
