Obituary

Marion Jeanette Schrum, 82, passed away February 11 after a long and courageous journey through life's many challenges.

Born and raised in Fox Hill, Jeanette was the oldest daughter of George Franklin and Norine Verlander. She graduated from Hampton High School, where she met the love of her life, Dannie Schrum. Their high school romance grew into a devoted marriage that lasted 52 years, until Dannie's passing in 2013.

Together, Jeanette and Dannie built not only a beautiful family but also a successful business, Crane Research. As Office Manager and Bookkeeper, Jeanette played an essential role in the company's growth and success. She worked with dedication and pride, supporting both the business and her husband every step of the way.

Jeanette's greatest joy was her family. She loved shopping for the perfect gifts, always putting thoughtful care into everything she gave. She treasured time with her grandchildren and was happiest when everyone was gathered together. Her summer crab feasts were a cherished tradition, and she proudly hosted holiday family gatherings—most recently this past Christmas—continuing the traditions she held dear.

Over the last decade, Jeanette endured many personal losses and serious health challenges. Through it all, she demonstrated an extraordinary will to live and remarkable resilience. Her strength, determination, and love for her family carried her through more than many thought possible. Though this final challenge proved too great, her perseverance remains an inspiration to those who knew her.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Dannie Schrum; her parents, George Franklin and Norine Verlander; and her sister, Brenda Strickland.

She is survived by her children, Dannie Schrum Jr. and his wife Jennifer, and Stephanie Moss and her husband David; her cherished grandchildren, Alexandra Schrum, Parker Schrum, Skylar Moss, and Natalie Moss; her sister, Sandra Ballard; and many loving nieces and nephews.

A funeral service will be conducted at 11:00 am, Wednesday, February 18, 2026 at Wallace Memorial United Methodist Church with interment to follow in Clark Cemetery. The family will receive friends at church prior to the service from 10-11 am.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Wallace Memorial United Methodist Church or the Clark Cemetery Perpetual Care Association.

Jeanette will be deeply missed, lovingly remembered, and forever held in the hearts of her family and friends.
