On January 1, 2023 God called home His faithful servant Jeanette Bryant Brooks. Born and raised in Hampton she was a 1936 graduate of Hampton High School and, with the exception of a few years, was a lifelong Hampton resident. Jeanette was a member of Central United Methodist Church where she taught Sunday school, and a mission Sunday school for many years and was a member of the Charlotte Hudgins Circle. She participated with her husband in activities of the Wythe Exchange Club. Jeanette worked alongside her husband for twenty years as his secretary with Nationwide Insurance.
Preceded in death by her husband of 59 years, James P. Brooks and her parents, O.P. and Ruby Bryant and her brother, William P. Bryant; survivors include her children, Janice B. Barefoot of Hampton, Bruce James Brooks (Dannielle) of Leesburg, FL, and Beth B. Suiter (Mark) of Yorktown; her grandchildren, Lisa Muckelroy, James and Jeffrey Barefoot, Michael and Matthew Brooks, Angel Fowler, and Rebecca Suiter; great-grandchildren, Skylar and Carter Muckelroy, Rylee Blevins, Camden, Paityn, Abby and Emma Barefoot, Alexa, Logan and Ashton Brooks, and Addison and David Fowler, Jr.; and a great-great-granddaughter, Kalayah Muckelroy.
A memorial service will be conducted at 1:00 PM. Saturday, January 7, 2023 at Central United Methodist Church, Hampton.
