IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Jean White
Pohling
November 25, 2025
Jean White Pohling, 72, of Carrollton, Virginia, died on November 25, 2025, at Riverside Regional Medical Center following a sudden illness.
She was born in Laurinburg, North Carolina, to the late Colonel Linney R. White (USAF, Retired) and Evelyn B. White, and raised in Hampton, Virginia. She graduated from the College of William and Mary with a Bachelor of Science degree in Psychology with a minor in Mathematics. She married Ronald Pohling in 1980 at First Presbyterian Church in Hampton.
In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her husband of 40 years, Ronald Pohling, and her beloved nephew, Bryan Scharver. Survivors include her sisters, Sarah Casseday (Mike) of Chevy Chase, Maryland, Sally Scharver (Danny) of Carrollton, Virginia, and Alice Payne (Randy) of Deltaville, Virginia; her niece, April Payne Hoar (David) of Spotsylvania, Virginia; and her nephew, Stephen Scharver of Durham, North Carolina.
Jean retired from Hampton City Schools after teaching mathematics for 35 years. After teaching in Smithfield, Virginia Beach and Poquoson, she continued her career at Kecoughtan High School in Hampton. After retirement, she moved to Rutherfordton, North Carolina, before returning to her final home in Carrollton, Virginia.
Jean enjoyed years of boating on the Chesapeake Bay and trips to the mountains on the back of a Harley-Davidson with her beloved Ronnie. They shared a deep appreciation of art and music that permeated their lives and brought special meaning. As a child and throughout her life, Jean delighted in soaking up the sun and having fun at Nags Head with her family. Most special, from the time she was a young child, she had a deep devotion to her dogs and cats who were always very close to her heart.
The family would like to thank her good friend and neighbor, Wendy Borsching, for her devoted friendship and care. In addition, the family is most appreciative of the kind warm care of all the nurses and staff of the Surgical ICU unit at Riverside Regional Medical Center.
