IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Jean Cain
Kinard
December 23, 1934 – February 3, 2023
On Friday February 3, 2023, Jean Kinard, 88, traveled her last journey into the arms of her Savior after a long battle with Alzheimer's disease. She was born December 23, 1934 in Greensboro NC to Rosalee and Webb Cain. Jean graduated from Hampton High School in 1953, marrying the love of her life, Joseph "Buddy" Kinard, in December of the following year. Jean worked for the C&P Telephone Company; retiring from Bell Atlantic (C&P Telephone Co.) as an Engineering Drafting Supervisor in 1991 after 31 years of service. She returned to the workforce supporting the sales organization at Gately Communications until 2002. Jean was a member of First United Methodist Church Fox Hill where she played handbells and worked with the children's choir ministry. She also spent her spare time volunteering at the Gift Shop at the Sentara Careplex in Hampton. Once she transitioned to the Evergreen memory care unit at Warwick Forrest, her "in charge" attitude earned her the title: "Queen of the Evergreen", and "Miss Jean" to the staff.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Buddy, parents Rosalee and Webb Cain, two infant sons, and her brother-in-law Bud Harper. She is survived by her son, Dan Kinard (Peggy), daughter Tammy Smith, and sister Bonnie Harper.
A celebration of her amazing life will be held graveside on Thursday February 9 th at 11am at the Parklawn Memorial Park. The family requests that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to either the Alzheimer's foundation or a charity of your choice.
The family would also like to express their appreciation to the Evergreen at Warwick Forrest staff for their support, kindness, and love for "Miss Jean". A very special thank you to Ms. Linda Lutz, mentor at the Evergreen, who helped her transition home.
