Jane Johnston King, 79, died Friday, November 29, 2024. Born to Jacob Leon and Alleta Painter Puffenberger, she was a longtime Hampton resident, and had lived the last 23 years in Chester, VA.

Jane was a legal secretary for Cumming, Hatchett, Moschel and Patrick for 38 years before retiring in 2000. She was a former member of Hampton Christian Church and attended Cornerstone of Deliverance. She enjoyed collecting Boyd's Bears and shopping for antiques.

Preceded in death by her first husband, Richard D. Johnston, her parents, and her sister, Ann P. Clayton; survivors include her husband, Charles E. King; her "bonus" daughter and niece, Lisa A. Smith and husband, Randall; her brother, James Puffenberger and wife, Sallie; grandsons, Christopher Smith and wife, Elizabeth, Daniel Smith and wife, Victoria, and Jarred Smith and wife, Brittany, great-grandchildren, Michael Smith, Scarlett Smith, and Emilia Smith; her nieces, Jamie Karpa and husband, David and Lori Mason, and husband, Danny; great-nephew Justin Cline and wife, Chelsea; great niece, Alexandria Collins; and great-great-nieces, Tavi Collins, and Kenzie Foss.

The family will receive friends from 1-2pm Wednesday, December 4, 2024, at R. Hayden Smith Funeral Home with a service beginning at 2pm. Interment will follow in Parklawn Memorial Park.
