Jane Gibson peacefully passed away in Hampton, Virginia on January 15, 2023. She was born on October 16, 1939 in Santa Ana, California to Harold and Rowena Harrison. She was a graduate of the University of Arizona majoring in elementary education. She taught in California, New York, and at the Department of Defense schools in Germany.
Jane was a member of St. John's Episcopal Church. She was fun loving and always up for a good game of Rummikub. She was an active sports enthusiast who loved the water and could be seen surfing or skiing on her happiest of days. She played on the tennis and field hockey teams at Arizona. Throughout her life she was known as a strong competitor winning many competitive tournaments in all different sports. Jane served and was involved in many community activities and organizations like the Elizabeth Lake Garden Club which she served as President. She could also be found being a docent at the Hampton Air and Space Center.
Jane is survived by her husband of 58 years, Byron Gibson; her children Teri Doyon (Jim) of Yorktown, Mark Gibson (Patience) of Venice, Fl; her three grandchildren, Danielle Doyon, Paradise Gibson, and Quinnton Gibson; and her sister, Sara Groenendyke of Gardnerville, NV.
A Celebration of Life will be held at 4 PM on Saturday, January 21, 2023 at St. John's Episcopal Church, 100 W. Queens Way, Hampton.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the St. John's Episcopal Church Music Foundation, the Salvation Army, or the Elizabeth Lake Garden Club.
