Jimmy, age 92, of Hampton, Virginia, passed away surrounded by his loving family on Friday, May 1, 2026. He was a beloved husband, father, papa, great-papa, brother, uncle and friend. Born on May 9,1933 in Roper NC to James H. and Bernice W. Roberson. Jimmy graduated from Roper High School in 1951 and later attended St. Leo University, where he earned a degree in Business Administration. Jimmy dedicated 21 years to a career in the US Air Force and achieved the rank of Master Sergeant before retiring in 1973. After retiring from the US Air Force, he worked for the Government Printing Office and retired in 2000. Jimmy also worked part-time at Wynne Ford as a DX driver where he made many friends. On April 12,1958 Jimmy married the love of his life, Shirley Taylor, with whom he shared 52 years. He was a man of many passions and was frequently found tending to his immaculate lawn, watching old westerns, going to JMU football games, and cheering on local baseball teams. He loved visiting with friends and family. He was a longtime member of First United Methodist Church Fox Hill where he was involved in many activities.

He is survived by his daughter, Pamela, her husband Mike; his son, Douglas and his wife Brenda, 4 grandchildren, Matthew May (Becca), Tiffany Roberson (Maxwell), Casey Kern, and Riley Bates (Douglas); 2 great-grandchildren, Liam Roberson and Bailey Kern. He is also survived by his sister, Martha Jean Daniels and nephew Danny Daniels (Joi). He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Shirley and his parents, James H and Bernice W. Roberson.

A visitation will be held on Wednesday, May 6, 2026, from 6pm to 7pm at R. Hayden Smith Funeral Home located at 245 S. Armistead Ave. Hampton, VA 23669. A funeral service will be held at 2PM on Thursday, May 7, 2026, at First United Methodist Church Fox Hill located at 1 Salt Pond Road Hampton VA 23664. Jimmy will be laid to rest following the funeral at Parklawn Memorial Park in the chapel mausoleum located at 2551 N. Armistead Ave. Hampton, VA 23666. Following the interment the family invites friends to join them back at the church for a reception.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to First UMC Fox Hill, the Parkinson’s Foundation, or The American Heart association in his memory.
