Rev. James Evert Ostberg , 87, heard his Lord and Savior's call and joined him in Heaven on Saturday, May 8, 2021. He was born on June 16, 1933 to Per Evert Ostberg and Anna Ragnhild (Rosdahl) Ostberg in Chicago, IL. James served in the US Army from 1953-1954. James graduated from the University of Illinois and then the Lutheran School of Theology at Chicago in 1968. He married his wife Marilyn Sue Smith and they enjoyed 64 years of marriage. James and his family served churches in Texas, Illinois, and New York during his career. He was an active member and Elder Advisor at Prince of Peace Lutheran Church, Virginia Beach, VA.

He was preceded in death by his parents and sister Elaine Ostberg Hansen. He is survived by his loving wife Marilyn Sue Ostberg ; three daughters and one son; seven grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren.

The family will have a funeral service to celebrate James' life and his calling to do God's work on Friday, May 14, 2021 at 11AM at Prince of Peace Lutheran Church in Virginia Beach. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to St Jude Children's Research Hospital or to Prince of Peace Lutheran Church.
