Moore
March 21, 1933 – June 28, 2022
James G. Moore, 89, passed peacefully on June 28, 2022 surrounded by his family. He was born on March 21, 1933, in Snow Hill, NC to Joseph Thomas and Sudie Pate Moore, the twelfth of thirteen children. He was predeceased by his parents and siblings.
James served in the United States Navy after high school. He moved to Hampton in 1958 and worked at Newport News Shipbuilding for over 40 years, retiring from Dept. X-14.
He enjoyed baseball, Nascar, and reading westerns. He loved his family and enjoyed gathering together for cookouts, meals, special holidays and birthdays, and spoiling his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He has attended Pine Cahpel Baptist Church for many years.
James is survived by his loving wife of 67 years, Nora F. Moore; his children, Debora Adams (Frank), James G. Moore, Jr. (Hope) and Cindy Richmond (Brad); nine grandchildren, Stephanie Adams, David Adams (Jessica), Kellie Fennewald (Matt), Jessica Personini (TJ), Sarah Richmond (fiancé Tim Briggs), Emily Moore, Allen Moore, Catherine Moore, and Elizabeth Moore; and 3 great-grandchildren, Silas Personini, Ethan Adams, and Nora Personini.
A graveside service will be conducted at 12:00 PM Friday, July 1, 2022 at Hampton Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends at R. Hayden Smith Funeral Home, 245 S. Armistead Avenue, Hampton, on Thursday, June 30 from 6 – 7:30 PM.
The family would like to thank Tia and Cassie from Virginia Home Health, Debby from VHS Hospice, and the aides from Riverside Private Duty for their excellent care provided to our loved one.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations in his name to Pine Chapel Baptist Church, 1544 W. Queen Street, Hampton, VA 23669 or The Forrest, Foyles, Aldridge, Henderson Scholarship Fund at the University of Mt. Olive, 634 Henderson Street, Mt. Olive, NC 28365.
