James Alvin Law, 84, died Saturday, February 20, 2016. Born in Franklin County, VA the youngest of 13 children he had been a Hampton resident for 57 years and was a member of Bethany United Methodist Church. He retired as Sheriff for the City of Hampton in 1991 having originally been appointed to the position in 1970 and then elected 5 times. Mr. Law had served in the US Army and was a member of the Hampton Elks Lodge #366 BPOE.

Mr. Law is survived by his children, Diane Greene and husband Mark, and Douglas Law; sisters, Mary Oaks and Virginia Lloyd; brother, Junior Law; grandchildren, Mark Greene Jr., Aaron Greene, Timothy Greene, Collin Law, and Jessica Law; great-grandchildren, Carter Payne, Vance Greene and Abe Greene.

A memorial service will be conducted at 6 PM, Thursday, February 25, 2016 at Bethany United Methodist Church to include Elks Rites. The family will receive friends at the church following the service. The interment will be held 3:00 PM, Saturday, February 27, 2016 at Mount Carmel Baptist Church Cemetery, Franklin County, VA.

The family requests that memorial contributions be sent to Bethany United Methodist Church, Hampton, VA.
