James R. Lackey, 74, died Thursday, December 7, 2023 after a courageous fight against Leukemia. Randy, a lifelong Hamptonian, met the love of his life "Dale" while attending college. The couple married shortly after and spent the next 50 years together until Dale's passing in 2022. Randy joined the Navy after college and did several tours in the Mediterranean on the USS Nimitz and USS Pharries. After his deployments, Randy mainly served as a career counselor supporting service men in their Naval careers. Upon retirement, he endeavored to use his entrepreneurial skills with Dale by his side, and built two successful businesses, CPR for Life and Showtime Karaoke.

After retiring in 2011 from his businesses, Randy continued to enjoy his love for the ocean, being on the water, and music. He enjoyed playing his string and electric guitars, taking rides on the Miss Hampton and Jamestown Ferry, and spending time with his grandchildren.

James was preceded in death by his wife Dale Lackey, his father, Orville Betts Lackey, and his mother, Rosalie Duff Lackey. He is survived by his son, James David Lackey; his daughter, April Jensen (Jason); three grandchildren, Alexis, Collin, and Liam Jensen; his sister, Donna Karnes; and his brother, Danny Lackey.
