Green
June 7, 2026
R Hayden Smith Funeral Home and Cremation Services
10:00 - 11:00 am (Eastern time)
After a lingering illness, with the love and support of his family, Jim Green passed away in the comfort of his mother’s home, on June 7, 2026. Having a deep sense of humor, Jim had the uncanny ability to find the fun in everyday situations. He was a doting son, brother, and uncle, and extremely appreciative of any efforts made on his behalf.
Earning an associate’s degree from Hampton University and an Airframe & Powerplant Certificate from Aviation Institute of Maintenance, Jim worked as an Aircraft Mechanic in Seattle, Washington for many years. Deciding to return to the Peninsula, Jim then obtained his Commercial Driver’s License, (CDL), and began a career as a long and short distance truck driver.
Born in Winston Salem, NC, Jim, over the years, lived in Seattle, WA, Maryville, TN, Virginia cities, and most recently in Poquoson, VA.
Jim leaves behind his devoted family, mother, Anne G. Vannice; sister, Sheri Harris, (Rusty); nephew, Tyler J. Harris; and nieces Haley Harris and Kylie Harris. Special family members include Kathy Crocker, (Jimmy), Matt Vannice, and Mark Vannice, (Karen).
A Celebration of Life will be held on Tuesday, June 23, 2026, at 10 am, at the R. Hayden Smith Funeral Home, 245 South Armistead Avenue, Hampton, VA.
