James Henry Gay, 61, died unexpectedly Thursday, December 26, 2013. Born January 20, 1952 in Yokohama, Japan he had been a Hampton resident most of his life and was a 1970 graduate of Kecoughtan High School.

James was preceded in death by his parents, James D. and Aiko Gay. He is survived by his sister Carol Gwaltney (Larry); brother, Bobby Gay; and nephew, Christopher Gay as well as several cousins in Chesapeake, Fairfax, Portsmouth and Virginia Beach. He always knew that his brother & sister were there if he needed them.

James worked for a number of different construction companies throughout the Tidewater area as a plumber/pipefitter.

He was a confirmed bachelor and preferred to keep to himself, passing his time watching sports & movies and listening to music. As a Beatles fan, he collected albums, magazines and articles written about them over the years.

Over the past 17 years he become very good friends with his next door neighbor and their children, watching them grow up.

A service will be conducted at 11:00 AM, Saturday, January 4, 2014 in the chapel mausoleum of Parklawn Memorial Park.
