James Harold Breeding, Sr., 88, died Saturday, July 2, 2022.  His son and daughter-in-law were by his side when he drifted off to be with Jesus.

Preceded in death by his wife, Lillian Breeding, father Arnold Breeding, mother Eleanor Breeding, four sisters, Ruth Musick, Lillian Smith, Clemence Breeding, and Ilene Stiff, four brothers, Jack Breeding, Charlie Breeding, John Breeding, and Joe Breeding; he is survived by his son, James H. Breeding, Jr. and wife, Rhonda; three grandchildren Abbigail Breeding, Isabelle Breeding, and Matthew Breeding; three great grandchildren Daisy Lillian Marie Scalera, Loki James Olson, and Sirus Yobi Olson, one sister Nancy Castle,  and one brother Scotty Breeding.

Born in Russell Co., Virginia, he was a longtime Hampton resident. He served in the United States Air Force and retired from Wells Fargo in 1997 after 37 years of service; he then kept busy delivering flowers for Smith Floragift. Jim was a gifted gardener and grew many vegetables and flowers which he shared with his neighbors and friends. He was a devoted husband to his wife for 62 years.  He was personable, respectful of others, and set the example of how a man should make his way in life.  He was a longtime member of East Hampton United Methodist Church and, after its closing, became a member of St. Mark's United Methodist Church.

The family will receive friends from 6-7pm Friday, July 8, 2022 at R. Hayden Smith Funeral Home, 245 South Armistead Avenue, Hampton, Virginia 23669. A graveside service with Air Force honors will be conducted at 2:00 PM, Sunday, July 10 at Parklawn Memorial Park by Rev. Ed Merry.
