James Alton Adcox, 85, died Tuesday, February 22, 2022. He was born on July 31, 1936 in Chambers County, Alabama, son of the late Claude and Lois (Sanders) Adcox.

James moved to Hampton in 1977. He served 23 years in the USAF including a tour in the Vietnam War, retiring in 1980. He became manager of the Robo Carwash on Pembroke Ave in 1981 and worked there until he retired in 2020. He loved college football, cooking, and gardening.

James married Bernice Conklin on July 3, 1958 and is survived by his children: Debra Adcox, Donna Adcox, Brenda Adcox (Marty), and Donald Adcox (Melissa); sisters: Faye, Evelyn (Bobby), Carol, and Judy; brothers: Troy (Judy), Franklin, and Elmer (Joanie); 8 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren.

A funeral service will be conducted at 11:00 am, Friday, March 18, 2022 at R. Hayden Smith Funeral Home, 245 S. Armistead Ave, Hampton with interment to follow in Albert G. Horton Memorial Veterans Cemetery, Suffolk. The family will receive friends at the funeral home prior to the service from 10-11 am.
