Ivan Rex Frey, Colonel USAF, Ret., died Sunday, June 11, 2017 in Hampton, VA at the age of 92. Born in Nelson, NE on July 21,1924, he was the son of Arthur and Marie Frey. On December 31, 1948, he married Blanche Marie Cook of Carbondale, IL, in Paxton, IL.

He is survived by his son, Gerald L. Frey and his daughter in-law, Jessica P. Frey, of Newport News, VA, as well as his four grandsons; Brian, Scot, John and his wife Randi, and Ian. He was preceded in death by his parents, his brothers Arthur and Eugene Frey, and his wife, Blanche Marie Frey.

Col. Frey graduated from Nelson High School in Nelson, NE in September 1943. He entered the Army Air Force Aviation Cadet Program where he successfully completed the program, earning his wings as a U. S. Army Air Force pilot, and was commissioned a 2nd Lieutenant. After World War II he attended the University of Nebraska before continuing his career in the U.S.A.F. for thirty years. From there he served in various locations around the world, taking his wife and son with him, when possible. Col. Frey retired from the USAF on August 1, 1973. He was a devoted son, brother, husband, father, and grandfather.

Col. Frey and Mrs. Frey will be interred at Arlington National Cemetery November 1, 2017 at 3:00 PM, with full military honors.
