Irene T. Hoffman, 91, passed away Friday, July 31, 2015. Born in East Vandergrift, PA, she has been a Peninsula resident for almost 40 years, where she worked as a sales clerk for Thalhimers Department Store and St. Kateri Thrift Shop and was a member of St. Kateri Tekakwitha Catholic Church. She was also a Navy WAVES veteran of World War II and loved to play bridge, quilt and make her Slovak family recipes. Irene was preceded in death by her brothers, Robert and Joseph Chilko; and sister, Margaret Fallone. She is survived by her daughters, Valerie Smith (Arn), Elena Gelletly (Jay) and Catherine Dodge (Toby); son, Paul Hoffman Jr.(Janet); sisters, Juliana Kuchta, Virginia Thompson and Betty Johnston; eight grandchildren and six great grandchildren. A Memorial Funeral Mass will be celebrated Friday, August 7 at 11:00am at St. Kateri Tekakwitha Catholic Church by Rev. Charles J. Faul. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Irene's name to the Parish Thrift Shop, Inc. (The Food Pantry), P.O.Box 2019, Poquoson, VA, 23662.
