Ingeborg Elizabeth (Rosenzweig) Coffey passed away peacefully, on December 26, 2018. She was born in Heidelberg, Germany, the Rhineland /Pfalz, on August 4, 1932.
As an only child, she experienced many challenges in the era of pre and post WWII. She met her husband, Cameron C. Coffey, Chaplains Assistant /Administrator at Patrick Henry military Chapel, in Heidelberg, Germany in 1959. Ingeborg immigrated with her family to Ft. Monroe, VA, in 1961, and following the birth of her third child, spent 3 years in Fontainbleau, France, with NATO forces, where their 4th child was born.
Following numerous tours of duty on the west coast and back to Hampton, VA while her spouse served in Viet Nam, the family made a final tour to Giessen, & Augsburg, Germany, before retiring to the Hampton area.
Having lived in such varied places , Ingeborg had quite a GLOBAL perspective. She was devout & passionate about her faith and served lifelong in the US Army Community, Church Choir, (PWOC)Protestant Women of the Chapel, (WMU), (VBS) Vacation Bible School, outreach ministries, Billy Graham Crusade, and an active member in the Post Chapel worship services of the Episcopal, and Baptist, as well as the Jewish Community Center, and Missions abroad. A truly ecumenical spirit.
Her love of God & Country was intense, honored by the Heritage Council of VA , in serving the Girl Scouts for 30 years.
Ingeborg had a PASSION for teaching children, as well as learning, taking continuing education classes at Thomas Nelson Community College, and writing creative poetry. Her gifts were many with a unique flair that touched many lives.
She is survived by her 4 children, Gudrun C. Rominger, James V. Coffey, David R. Coffey, & Barbara L. Coffey, and 4 grandchildren, Sherman R. Rominger, Rachel E. Hinton, Olivia and Avery Coffey, and her great grandsons, David Thiago Hinton, and Elliott Coleman Rominger.
The Memorial Celebration will be held at 2 PM, at the Chapel of the Centurion, Ft. Monroe, VA on Friday, January 4, 2019, followed by a reception at the Chapel Center.
Ingeborg will be interned at Arlington National Cemetery.
