Obituary

Herman Judson Montgomery, Jr., 95, died Sunday, September 30, 2018. Born in Buckroe he had lived there all his life, was a member of Buckroe Baptist Church, and was known as the "Mayor of Buckroe Beach". He joined the Navy as a very young man and went to work for the Civil Service at Langley retiring in 1978 after 35 years of service. Herman loved the outdoors, jazz music, and arguing with television at the newscasters at CNN. A very smart man, he would give anyone the shirt off his back if they needed it.

Preceded in death by his wife, Athlyn B. Montgomery, a daughter, Christy Edens, and a grandson, Jeff Edens; survivors include his daughters, Cydnee Proctor and Bennett Cosentino; a son, Herman Judson Montgomery, III; four grandchildren, Chris Edens, Marty Roberts, Herman Judson Montgomery, IV, and Michael Brandon Cosentino; and four great-grandchildren, Madison Athlyn Roberts and Herman Judson Montgomery, V, Benton Edens and August Edens.

A memorial service will be conducted at 6:00 PM, Thursday, October 4, 2018 in the R. Hayden Smith Funeral Home chapel by Pastor Buddy Chapman.
