Heriberta "Bertha" Lpez, 77, entered into eternal rest on September 7 2013, peacefully surrounded by family in her Hampton home. She was a native of Laredo, Texas and a resident of Hampton for 37 years.
She retired June 30, 2011 from the Fort Monroe Army and Air Force Exchange after 35 years of service. She was an active member of Saint Joseph Catholic Church in Hampton where she served as a Hispanic Eucharistic Minister, volunteered in the Food Pantry, and Father Joe's House Thrift Shop and was a member of The Ladies of Saint Joseph. She enjoyed entertaining and cooking for her family, exercising, bowling, traveling and going to concerts.
She is preceded in death by her mother and father Virginia and Geronimo Rodriguez; brother Geronimo Rodriguez Jr. and brother in-law Raul Trevino. She is survived by her husband of 54 years, Ismael A. Lpez; five daughters, Rosalinda (John) Hally of Little Torch Key, FL, Rebecca Lpez, Roxanne (Jim) Brown, Rita (Mark) Charnick, and Reginia Lpez all of Hampton, VA; seven grandchildren, Rusty Wallace, Christina (Nathan) Hiltke, David Lpez, Mark Charnick Jr., Alessandra Hally, AJ Hally, and Raymond Brown; her great-grand daughter, Ava Hiltke and five sisters, Claudia (James) Richey, Guadalupe Trevino, Elida (Margarito) Lpez, Sylvia (Angel) Acosta, and Virginia (Gil-Bert) Leveck.
The Holy Rosary will be prayed at 5:00 PM Wednesday at R. Hayden and Smith Funeral Home. Immediately following, the family will receive friends until 7:00 PM. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 12:00 Noon Thursday, by Rev. Msgr. Walter C. Barrett, at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 512 Buckroe Avenue. Interment will follow at Hampton-Veterans Memorial Gardens in Hampton. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Saint Joseph Food Pantry at 512 Buckroe Avenue, Hampton, VA 23664. Arrangements are by R. Hayden Smith Funeral Home, at 245 South Armistead Avenue in Hampton, 757-723-3191.
