Henry E. Stewart, known as Sonnie to his friends, the son of the late Ollie and Henrietta Stewart was born on August 25, 1936. He was called to his eternal rest on October 8, 2018 following a lengthy illness.
Henry was raised in Newport News and dropped out of high school at the age of 17 to enlist in the United States Air Force. After leaving the Air Force he returned home to Newport News where he met Barbara Sears. In 1963, he married the love of his life, and together they raised two sons.
After working several odd jobs, Henry settled into working in production at Betty Lewis Bakery and Brenner's Bakery in Newport News where he retired. In 1995, he and Barbara moved to Hampton to be closer to family. Once retired, however, he found that he could not sit still. He decided to go back into the workforce. Working part time at Toys R Us, he often provided the kids with all the great toys. It was during this time we discovered Dad was a Big Kid!!!
Never one to be idle he would find things to do around the house, the yard, or working on our cars. He called himself a Jack of all trades a Master of none. The patriarch of the family, "Sporty Ace" as he was affectionately called by his boys, was a loving husband, grandfather, great grandfather and Dad. He was truly our Best Friend.
Left to cherish his memory...sons Steven B. Stewart (LaMonica), Andre D. Stewart both of Hampton; his sister Mammie Washington; his brother Ronnie Stewart (Carolyn): sisters-in-law Lillian M.
