Obituary
Henry Robert (HR) Jones, III, 67, began his next journey on Sunday, January 8, 2017. HR was a lifelong resident of Hampton, growing up in Buckroe, and later raising a family in Fox Hill. He worked in construction for many years, specializing in interior trim work. His handiwork is featured inside many homes and businesses all over the Peninsula.
HR was an avid outdoorsman and loved to both hunt and fish. He spent many hours on the old Buckroe Pier and for many years held a pier record for largest red drum. Also a dedicated hunter, he enjoyed hunting game of all sizes, from rabbits to elk. He was a longtime member of Bacon's Castle Hunt Club in Surry County where, in 2001, he took a record buck with his muzzleloader. That deer won second place in the Virginia Department of Game and Inland Fisheries Big Game Contest in the category for 9-11 points. It also landed HR's name in the NMLRA Muzzleloading Big Game Record Book scoring 155 2/8 Boone & Crockett points.
His real pride and joy, however, were his daughter and grandchildren. Through many hours shared with him in the field and on the water, they all developed a genuine love of the outdoors.
HR is survived by his wife of 47 years, Katharine Jones; daughter, Alice Jones Webb and her husband Keith of Tarboro, NC; sisters, Pearl Drake of Paulsbo, WA; Sammie Lee Duhe of Hampton; Margaret Jones Harbeck of Yorktown; brothers, Terry Jones and Jerry Jones of Hampton; and grandchildren, Daniel, Hannah, Silas and Emma Webb.
HR's life will be remembered and celebrated at 2:00 PM Saturday at Berceuse Funeral and Cremation Traditions. The family wishes in lieu of flowers, contributions be made to the Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation –
