Eva Helene Phelps, 82, passed away on Wednesday, August 14, 2024. Born in Richmond, Virginia, and a lifelong resident of Hampton, VA, she was the daughter of Charles W. and Hortense Page Tisdale. Helene worked as a beautician for over 40 years, serving in several salons across the area.

She had a deep love for the outdoors and a passion for cooking, filling her home with cookbooks and the delicious aromas of meals that brought the entire family together. Helene was a member of Langley Christian Church and the Red Hat Society. She cherished the small things in life, always keeping her nails and hair beautifully done and she often enjoyed card games with friends.

A two-time cancer survivor, Helene spent her last few months surrounded by family, with special thanks to Rebecca Hollis, who provided full-time caregiving in her final months. She was preceded in death by her parents Charles W. and Hortense Page Tisdale, her husband of 42 years, Robert C. Phelps; her brother, Charles W. Tisdale, Jr.; her stepson, Thomas Phelps; and her grandson, Joshua Phelps. Helene is survived by her stepdaughters, Rebecca Hollis and Cynthia Russell; her stepson, Ronald Booth; thirteen grandchildren: Steven, Joshua, Christina, Robbie, Cassandra, Chandra, Troy Jr., Candace, Stephanie, Joseph, Sarah, Samantha, and Almeada; 11 great grandchildren; five great-great grandchildren; and two loving pets, Libby-Lou and Romeo.

All are welcome to attend a memorial service and celebration of life that will be held on September 14th at 2:00pm in the chapel of R. Hayden Smith Funeral Home.
