Helen Frances Keener went home to be with her Lord on Monday, January 22, 2018 at the age of 93. She was born in Coopers, West Virginia, and was a resident of Hampton for 77 years.

After completing nursing school at Lewis Gale Hospital in Roanoke, Virginia, Mrs. Keener began her career as a registered nurse at Dixie Hospital in Hampton. She left nursing to raise her children then she resumed her career at Mary Immaculate Hospital where she worked for over 20 years. After her retirement, she enjoyed creating custom furniture with her loving husband Glen, whom she had met in first grade.

Mrs. Keener was preceded in death by her husband of 52 years, Glen H. Keener, Sr., her brother Morris Wayne Steele, sister Betty Woosley, and two grandchildren Janean Keener and Joseph Condon. Mrs. Keener is survived by seven children and their spouses; Glen and Bekki Keener, Jr. of Virginia Beach, Anna and Dyer Pickett of Fredericksburg, Nancy and Jim Mayhew and Andy and Barbara Keener of Hampton, Kathy and Penn Schubert, Becky and Chris VanderStouwe, and Amy and Jeff Condon, all of Newport News.   Her surviving siblings include; Eleanor Forbes of Missouri, Sue Suttles of Oklahoma, Wilma Luton and James Steele of Arkansas. She was the proud grandmother of 17 grandchildren and 26 great grandchildren.

For over 50 years, Mrs. Keener was a faithful member of her much-loved Aldersgate United Methodist Church. The family will receive friends from 12:30 to 2:00 p.m. in the fellowship hall at Aldersgate in Hampton on Saturday, January 27, 2018. The Rev. Booker Brown will conduct a funeral service at Aldersgate at 2 p.m. with burial following in Parklawn Memorial Park.
