Hazel Johnson
Lemon
May 25, 1934 – March 9, 2026
Hazel Johnson Lemon, 91, passed away on Monday, March 9, 2026. Born in Lenoir County, NC, she was the daughter of George and Daphne Bell Johnson. Hazel spent most of her life in Hampton, where she built a loving home and community. She married Edgar Lemon on February 26, 1954, beginning a partnership that spanned many cherished years until his passing in 2009.
Hazel dedicated three decades of service to Hampton City Schools as a cafeteria manager, working at both Phillips and Booker Elementary Schools before retiring in 1999. Through her work, she touched the lives of countless students and colleagues with her care and steady presence.
A woman of deep faith, Hazel was a charter member of Fox Hill Road Baptist Church. She was actively involved in the life of the church, serving on the kitchen committee and participating in the WMU and Club 55, where she found fellowship and joy in serving others.
Preceded in death by her parents; her husband Edgar Barker Lemon; daughter, Celia Lemon; her brothers, Joseph "JW" Johnson and George Johnson; and granddaughter, Keri Spaulding. She leaves to cherish her memory, children, Frances Oliver (Kenneth), Edgar Ward Lemon (Carol Mick), Dale Lemon (Sue), and Rita Thomas; grandchildren, Elaine Hughes, Sarah Hammond, Edgar Lemon, Jr., David Lemon, Meganne Lemon, Tyler Lemon (Sara Spartz), Traci Thomas, and Sabrina Thomas; great-grandchildren, Olivia Hughes, Keegan Hughes, EJ Lemon, Christina Lemon, Tommy Lemon, Lydia Lemon, Jonah Wright and Luke Wright; and special cousin Teresa Davis of Albertson, NC.
The family wishes to express their sincere gratitude to the staff at Warwick Forrest and especially those within the Evergreen Community. Their love and support has made them extended family.
A funeral service will be held at 3 PM on Sunday, March 15, 2026, at Fox Hill Road Baptist Church, 335 Fox Hill Road, Hampton. The family will receive friends prior to the service from 2:00 – 3:00 PM at the church. A graveside service will be held at 11 AM, Monday, March 16, 2026, at Parklawn Memorial Park.
