Hazel Fultz Massengill Hartley Gard, 84, widow of Gillis Massengill and Herbert Gard, passed away Saturday April 5, 2014. Born in Tazewell, TN, she has been a resident of Hampton since 1954, where she retired from Avon Fashions in Newport News.

Hazel was preceded in death by her parents, Meddia and Henry Fultz; son, Rickie Alvin Massengill; brothers, Charlie Fultz, Harvey Fultz; Richard Fultz and Evan Fultz; and sisters, Bertha Whitaker and Priscilla Smallwood. She is survived by her sisters and their spouses, Minnie and Jesse Bradford and Bernice and Dave Allen; brothers and their spouses, Floyd and Janice Fultz and Tommy Fultz; Also survived by her daughter, Carol Massengill Bone Mabe and her husband Kenny; sons and their spouses, Phillip Ray and Joyce Massengill, Jerry David and Vanessa Massengill, John Lee and Syndi Massengill and Terry Neil Hartley, Jr; eighteen grandchildren and many great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends Sunday April 13 from 2-4:00 PM at R. Hayden Smith Funeral Home in downtown Hampton. A funeral service will be conducted Monday April 14 at 1:30 PM in the funeral home chapel by Rev. Cox. Interment will follow in the Phoebus Section of the Hampton National Cemetery.
