Harvey Newkirk, 95, died Tuesday, March 10 2015. He was born in Rose Hill, NC and had been a longtime resident of Hampton. A veteran of WWII he served in the Battle of the Bulge, and following the war served in the National Guard. Harvey was a talented machinist and had owned a watch shop in Phoebus as well as worked at the Newport News and Norfolk shipyards. Survivors include his son, Robert Newkirk; daughter Nelda Archer and her husband Tom, grandchildren, Serena, Matthew, and Daniel, and great-grandchildren, Emma and Leah. The family will receive friends at R. Hayden Smith Funeral Home on Saturday, March 14 from 2-3 PM, with a funeral service following immediately after. Interment will follow on Monday at Quantico National Cemetery.
