Harry Dean "Bud" Harper slipped peacefully into the arms of angels on January 7, 2021 following a brief illness.  Born in Gary Indiana to Vera and Harry D. Harper Sr., Bud was an honorably discharged United States Navy veteran; which he followed with a civil service career with the Department of the Navy; retiring after 42 years.  Bud met the love of his life, Bonnie, in 1966 at Skateland Roller Rink, whom he married in 1969.  Bud was a "True Blue…and Silver" Dallas Cowboys fan who loved to play golf and read.  He is survived by his wife of 51 years; sisters in law Dixie Aydelotte of Gary IN and Jean Kinard of Newport News VA, nieces Raelene Richter, Tammy Smith, and Linda Wright, nephews Jimmy Aydelotte and Dan Kinard, great nieces Brittney Molebash and Hannah Smith, and great nephews Wesley Richter, Raymond Wright, and Tyler Aydelotte.

The family would like to thank the front-line staff at Sentara Careplex, Sentara Norfolk General, and Riverside Hospitals as well as first responders of the Newport News Fire Department.

A memorial service with Navy honors and Elks Rites will be conducted at 11:00 AM, Saturday, January 16, 2021 at Hampton Memorial Gardens.
