Harrol A. Brauer III (Hal) passed on to the Lord on August 23, 2021. Hal was born in Hampton, Virginia on July 31, 1953 to Harrol A. Brauer, Jr. and Elizabeth (Skeeter) Brauer. He graduated from Kecoughtan High School in 1971 where he met the love of his life and his high school sweetheart, Jennifer Mitchell, who lived a street over from where he grew up in East Hampton.
Throughout high school, Hal worked at WVEC-TV in Hampton. With his brother Bill, they operated the two studio cameras for TV shows like Bungles the Clown, Sandy the Clown, the early news, and many other broadcasts. He graduated from Christopher Newport College of the College of William and Mary in 1975 with a Bachelor of Science in Business while working at Beach Hardware in Hampton. Along with his father, he purchased Wyatt Brothers in Downtown Hampton in 1983 until it was sold in 1990 to Benton-Knight. Hal had a long and distinguished career in advertising, marketing, and business management including Director of Sales and Marketing at WVEC-TV, General Sales Manager at Cox Media, Senior Director of Sales and Marketing at MYMIC Training Technologies, Founder and President of Brauer of Hampton Roads LLC and Director of Corporate Communications at the Peninsula Community Foundation. Hal was most proud that he was a Certified Marketing Executive. He was also an Adjunct Professor, Practicum in WHOV Radio Sales and Marketing, at the Scripps Howard School of Journalism and Communication at Hampton University.
Hal volunteered his time as President of the Hampton Roads Chapter of the American Marketing Association, a member of the Virginia Air & Space Center Board, Vice President of the Virginia Peninsula Crime Stoppers Inc., President of the Old Hampton Merchants Association, and a Leadership Coach at Liberty Baptist Church. He lived a life of faith as a member of St. John's Episcopal church in Downtown Hampton where he served as a vestry member and an usher with his father and brothers for many years and at Liberty Baptist church where he taught Sunday school to high schoolers. His passion and found purpose was mentoring youth, the disadvantaged, alcoholics, and those addicted and afflicted through programs at his church and through Alcoholics Anonymous.
He is survived by his wife, Jenny; sons, Harrol IV, Chris (Laura, grandchildren Wyatt and Eliza) and Stuart; and brothers Bill (Michelle) and Greg (Cindy).
A private funeral service will be held at Liberty Baptist church followed by a private burial at St. John's Cemetery.
