Harriett Mildred Forrest Ayers, 93, passed away peacefully at home on Feb. 14, 2018. Mildred was born on Feb 23, 1924 in Poquoson, to Claytor and Virginia Forrest. She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert D. Ayers Sr; her sons, Robert D. Ayers Jr and Lawrence W. Ayers; a grandson, Richard Claytor Ayers; and a granddaughter, Amanda Louise Ayers.

Mildred is survived by her son, William Claytor Ayers and his wife Phyllis; daughter-in-law, Lucinda Ayers; eight grandchildren and seventeen great-grandchildren

Mildred graduated from Hampton High School in1941 and retired from Patrick's Hardware.

The family will receive friends Friday from 5:30-7 pm at R. Hayden Smith Funeral Home, 245 S. Armistead Ave. A graveside service will be conducted at 11:00 am, Saturday, February 17, 2018 at Parklawn Memorial Park. The service will be officiated by Pastor Booker Brown of Central United Methodist Church where Mildred was a member. A reception will follow the graveside service.
