Obituary

Hamilton Manning Lawson Jr. died Tuesday September 2, 2014. Born December 29, 1940, Manning was a Hampton native and lifelong resident. Manning's first love was the water and he spent many happy years working with his father on his trawlers, the Lawson and the Resolute. He worked for many years at Lawson Seafood, a crab business in Hampton before buying Bunting Oyster House in Cappahosic (Gloucester), Virginia. Manning loved all things connected to the commercial water business and these feelings stayed strong all his life. Manning was preceded in death by his parents, Hamilton Manning Lawson Sr. and Pollyanna Kelly Lawson; his first wife Carol Hughes Lawson and his second wife Iris Sweeney Lawson. He is survived by his four daughters, Paige Lawson Slayton (Kenny) of Virginia Beach, Nanette Lawson Greeley (John) of Cedar Park, Texas, Molly Kelly Lawson, Heather Lawson Moore (Kyle) of Williamsburg; two brothers, Michael Kelly Lawson (Penney) of Houston, Texas and Joseph G. "Pete" Lawson of Roanoke; and, one sister, Deedy Lawson Mason (Buz) of Newport News. Manning had numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren, and was the adored Grandpa Lawson to Kai, Kira and Kensington Moore. A celebration of Manning's life will be on Saturday, September 20, 5 to 8 pm at the Hampton Yacht Club. In honor of Manning, memorial donations may be made to Watermen's Museum In Yorktown, P. O. Box 519, Yorktown, VA 23690.
