Obituary

Henry Wayne Grigg, born on May 11, 1950, passed from this life to his eternal reward Sunday, February 25, 2018.

Born in Richmond, VA, Wayne was raised in Emporia, Virginia, where he attended Greensville County public schools. Pursuing his interests in history and theology, he attended Richard Bland college, and the University of Richmond, earning a degree in Philosophy and Religion. Being called to the ministry, he attended Southeastern Seminary in Wake Forest, NC, and began pastoring his first churches. After seminary, he studied theology at the University of Edinburgh, Scotland, and upon returning to the US, continued to pastor in the North Carolina and the Virginia conferences.

In 1992 Wayne left the pulpit ministry to become a hospital chaplain at Riverside Hospital in Newport News, where he was working when he met his wife Judy. Always loving to learn, he went back to school, to ODU, and earned a Master's of Education degree in counseling, which he put to use in his final career move as Manager of the Transitional Housing Program for Homeless Veterans, run by the Salvation Army on the grounds of the Hampton VA Medical Center.

After retiring in 2012, Wayne loved to go boating and fishing on Chesapeake Bay, playing with his dogs, visiting with his granddaughters, but most of all finding ways to serve his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. He volunteered as chaplain for the Arbors retirement community, and served many times as a Sunday school teacher.

Wayne was preceded in death by his parents Henry G. Grigg and Pauline H. Grigg, both of Emporia.

He leaves to cherish his memory his beloved wife, Judith Satchell Grigg, two step-sons, Brad Anderson (Allison) of Williamsburg and Marty Anderson (Exie) of Fuquay-Varina, NC, three granddaughters, Tabitha, Sadie, and Grace, and his brother Randy Grigg (Karen) of Carrollton.
