Guy “Kenny” Kendig Shelton, Jr., 76, passed away on Wednesday, July 15, 2026.
Born in Hampton, Virginia to Guy and Virginia Roberson Shelton, he remained a lifelong Virginia resident. Guy retired after 40 years with Riverside, concluding his dedicated career as the Administrator of Riverside Convalescent Center-Mathews. Throughout his career, he touched countless lives with his compassion, leadership, and genuine concern for the residents, families and colleagues he served.
Outside of work, Guy found joy on the golf course, especially at Golden Horseshoe Country Club in Williamsburg, and took great pride in creating beautiful flower beds and a yard that was the envy of Highland Park.
Those who knew Guy will remember a man whose life was defined by service, kindness, and love. More than anything, he treasured his family and was always there with encouragement, wisdom, and unconditional love. He took great pride in his family and celebrated their accomplishments, always sharing in their joys and milestones. His legacy will endure through the countless lives he touched, the example he set, and the family who will carry his memory forward with love and gratitude.
Preceded in death by his parents; his brother, Gary “Stevie” Shelton; and beloved stepson, Joseph Tvelia, Guy leaves to cherish his memory, his wife of 27 years, Marge Shelton; daughter, Kelley Whiting; his granddaughter, Krisna Whiting; his stepdaughter, Lynn Hudnall (Lewis); and grandchildren, Mitchell Hudnall, and Mackenzie Hudnall. He was immensely proud of his family and treasured every moment spent with them.
The family wishes to extend their heartfelt gratitude to the staff of the Hidenwood Memory Care Unit for their loving care, and the many friendships made there.
A memorial service will be held at 5:00 p.m. on Saturday, July 25, 2026, at R. Hayden Smith Funeral Home, 245 S. Armistead Ave, Hampton, Virginia.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial donations be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital or to the charity of your choice.
