Greta Jane Herner, 83, died Monday, August 10, 2015. A native of Canton, KS, she had been a Peninsula resident for most of her life where she was an active member of Emmanuel Episcopal Church and taught Sunday school for many years. She enjoyed sewing, crocheting and gardening and loved her cats. Preceded in death by her husband, Melvin Leon Herner; survivors include her daughter, Margie H. Smith and her husband, Paul of Smithfield; her son, Dale Herner and his wife, Linda of Williamsburg; her sister, Beverly Jan Oden and her husband, Clint of Sedona, AZ; four grandchildren, Michelle Smith Homer and her husband, Jason, Mike P. Smith and his wife, Kelli, Tracy L. Newsom and her husband, Ryan, and Roxann C. Nelson and her husband, Corey; five great-grandchildren, Addison Grace Smith, Robert Eason Smith, Landon James Homer, McKenzy Rue Homer, and Colby Ray Newsom; and many nieces and nephews. The family would like to thank Riverside Convalescent-Smithfield, James River Convalescent Center, and Riverside Hospice for the care and support shown to their mother over the years. The family will receive friends from 9:30-10:30AM Friday, August 14, 2015 at R. Hayden Smith Funeral Home followed by a graveside service at 11:00 AM at Parklawn Memorial Park conducted by Rev.
