Grady James Calhoun, 76, died Monday, December 11, 2017. Born in North Carolina, he had been a longtime Hampton resident. He enjoyed golfing, boating, traveling and coached speed skating. He retired from Newport News Shipbuilding and then worked as an instructor at Thomas Nelson Community College where he trained and selected employees for the shipyard.
Preceded in death by parents Ralph and Clara Calhoun, son Bryan Calhoun, sister Joann Castle and brother John L. Calhoun; survivors include his wife, Kimberly B. Calhoun, daughter Beverly C. Pulley and husband Todd; siblings Margaretta Bunch, Charlotte Powell, Ogean Calhoun, Clyde Calhoun, Larry Calhoun and Bobby Calhoun, mother-in-law and father-in-law, Margaret and Jim Bartlett; grandchildren Amanda M. Pulley and Crystal P. Helton and husband, Tyler.
He was a loving husband and great father who loved to lend a hand helping his family and friends; but he especially loved being involved with his grandchildren.
The family will receive friends from 3 – 5 PM Saturday, December 16, 2017 at R. Hayden Smith Funeral Home, 245 S. Armistead Avenue, Hampton, VA.
