Gordon Lawrence Parkhurst, born October 12, 1950, passed away Saturday, March 9, 2024. Born in San Diego, CA, he attended several schools in Hawaii, Wake Island, Ogden, UT, and San Diego, CA.

During high school he was in a garage band with brother Mike and cousins Gary and George. He loved music and continued playing the guitar for the rest of his life.

After high school, in 1968, Gordon joined the Army and served in Vietnam. He gave his heart to Jesus in 1971 and joined a Christian commune for two years. He worked various jobs and, in 1983, started working for the Navy. He served an apprenticeship at Mare Island, CA and became a Marine Machinist, working on submarines. He worked on the Navy research vessel Pacific Escort for twelve years and upon conclusion of that job, relocated to Norfolk to work at Norfolk Naval Shipyard. Gordon retired in 2010 and continued to play music with small groups.

He was a member of Hampton Christian Church where he was very active and loved, and he played bass guitar with the church choir. He was a generous person with both his time and his money.

Gordon will be greatly missed by his sons, Casey and Wiley Parkhurst of Benicia, CA; his special friend, Anne Vannice; and his siblings, Debbie Christiansen (Clayton), Judy Kleeb (Ty), Grant Carver (Shelley), Kathy Williams (Ron), Gregg Carver, and DeeDee Richins (Mark). He was preceded in death by his father, Gordon L. Parkhurst and wife, Carol and mother, Mary Lou Welch and husband, Ervil.

A memorial service with Army honors will be conducted at 11:00 AM. Saturday, March 23, 2024 at Hampton Christian Church with Pastor David L. Cox officiating.
