IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Gloria Rosa
Brown
April 25, 2018
Gloria Rosa Brown, the daughter of the late George Johnson and Clementine B. Mason was born in New York City on July 7, 1928. She attended New York City Public Schools and later worked and retired from the New York City Board of Education.
On May 23, 1945, Gloria married William Brown Jr., she was a loving and devoted wife for over 55 years. Their union produced five children; Wilhelmenia, Iris "Dolly", Yvonne, Celeste and the late William David. Her extensive family includes: Son-in-law Arthur, nine grandchildren and their spouses: Courtney (Scott), Kelly (Dennis), Keith (Shaun), Kaydra, Jason (Theresa), Dana (Ameer), Teri (Hamadi), Marcus, and Sasha (Timothy). Additionally, there are 16 great grandchildren, 2 great-great grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews and friends.
In 1965, Gloria symbolized her dedication to Jehovah God by water baptism and faithfully served him until her death on April 25, 2018. The Field Ministry continued to be a part of her regular routine. Every month she went from door to door, participated in the campaign, invitation and Bible study work. She also did letter writing and telephone witnessing when arthritis limited her activity. Family Worship helped her to prepare comments for attendance at meetings in the Kingdom Hall. She was learning how to tap gently on her tablet to bring up the scriptures. Sister Brown was busy in theocratic activity to the end.
Gloria loved life and enjoyed having a good time. She had a beautiful voice and could sing any song that was put to music. Her other passion was food! She loved to eat and was an excellent cook. Hospitality was her middle name. In the past, both William and Gloria made sure that no local speaker or Bethelite would give a talk at the Kingdom Hall without coming to their home to have dinner and relax after the meeting. Everyone was always welcomed in their home, including hosting a book study group for over 35 years. Affectionately called "Gowa or Momma Brown"- she truly was a mother to all. When a young brother in the congregation lost his mom in death, without hesitation, William and Gloria took him into their home and raised him as one of their own. He continues to serve Jehovah to this day. She always found joy in calling her grands, nieces and nephews, making sure that life was treating them well and offering any guidance and support that was needed.
Gowa, we will forever keep you alive in our hearts and minds and look forward to the time when we all will meet again in Paradise.
Job 14:14, 15 - If a man dies, can he live again? I will wait all the days of my compulsory service until my relief comes. 15 You will call, and I will answer you. You will long for the work of your hands.
