Gladys Mae Sopko, age 66, of Newport News, VA unexpectedly passed away May 21, 2021. She was born to the late Raymond and Helen Burton, February 29, 1955 in Plymouth, Massachusetts.  Gladys was the seventh of eleven children. Gladys married the late John Sopko in 1976 and they traveled the country, living throughout, while John served in the United States Navy.  She could be found on every sideline, cheering for her boys until the end. Gladys enjoyed going to Bingo, participating in community 5ks, playing her 'scratchers' and her favorite pastime of all- rooting with colorful language for the Pittsburgh Steelers.  Her sons, grandchildren, and her English Bulldog Dolly captured her heart.  Gladys selflessly gave everything to her family and will be forever in our hearts as Nana.

Gladys was preceded in death by her husband John Sopko (2011) and her parents Raymond (1995) and Helen (1988) Burton.

Gladys is survived by her sons: Matthew (Hannah) Sopko, of Newport News, VA and Robert (Elizabeth) Sopko, of Yorktown, VA.  She is also survived by six loving grandchildren, Madison, Emma, Sydney, Paige, Natalie and Sarah, ten brothers and sisters, Raymond, Marilyn, Bruce, Mary Lou, Peggy Lee, Gay, Helen, Emory, John and Robert, and numerous nieces and nephews.

A memorial gathering will be held from 6:00pm-8:00pm Wednesday May 26, 2021 at the Running Man Community Clubhouse in Yorktown, VA.  In lieu of flowers, please donate to your local DAV chapter on her behalf or buy yourself a lottery scratcher ticket.  She would be equally happy with either!
